Getting Your House Ready For Sale

There are many ways to get a remodeled look, without great time, expense or stress. Summer is here and if you are planning on selling your home, now is the time to get it listing ready.  I’ve put together some quick, easy and inexpensive ways to give your home a face lift, even if you’re not selling.

As I mentioned in my InWeston article, the easiest and quickest way to make a change is paint. Paint is our friend. It can change the total feel of the interior from dull to dynamic. Choose a neutral color, on the light side and apply a fresh coat. Don’t forget about the baseboards. Use a high gloss white to really make them look clean and “pop”. And while you’re at it… since you had to remove all your pictures and artwork in order to paint, leave them off. Prospective homeowners like to envision their belongings in the space. It’s difficult to do with your family photos and personal mementos everywhere.

Next we move to the most important room in the house – the kitchen. If you haven’t changed your kitchen in a while, start with the hardware. Be sure you match the same size holes, but substitute the old style for something more contemporary. Even if your kitchen isn’t, it will elevate the tone. Changing your counter top, sink and faucet are also relatively inexpensive modifications that offer a big impact.

Moving on to the bathrooms, again, counter tops, sinks, faucets and hardware can all be replaced with updated versions.  Look to bring in color with some fresh towels and new accessories. These are minimal expenditures, for maximum results. Be sure your toilet is in decent condition and in good working order.

Declutter, declutter, declutter… that’s critical to proper presentation. This trick opens the space and makes everything look larger.  Make sure you don’t have too many pieces of furniture in a room and too many accessories. You want your home to look inviting, not overcrowded.

Window treatments can also make or break a look. If you currently have heavy drapes or swags in your home, remove them QUICK!!! The style today for window coverings is clean and simple. Let the light in: the more, the better.
